Kirby Coats Law - Fees, located in Washington

FEES

How Much Will Legal Services Cost?

It will depend on what kind of work you want an attorney to perform.

Civil cases including: business, real estate, elder law, wills, powers of attorney, directives to physicians

Generally fees for these matters are charged on hourly bases.  This means you pay for the time it takes the lawyer to accomplish your case.  Hourly rates range from $250 to $300 per hour.  Generally the lawyer working on your case will give you an idea prior to beginning on your case how much time they expect it will take to accomplish the tasks.  However, sometimes unforeseen issues arise that can increase or decrease the amount of time needed on a project.  We will always provide a good faith estimate and if the time commitment is longer than anticipated, you will be notified prior to additional work being done.

DUI, criminal representation, anti-harassment orders/orders of protection

We generally charge a flat fee.  The fees can vary based upon the kind of case you have, your history, and complexity of the matter.  We offer a free consultation.  After discussing the case with you we will give you a specific estimate of the fees involved.

Who pays for the costs incurred that aren’t legal fees?

We both do.  Unlike most firms, we don’t charge our clients copy costs.  We believe that some things are just part of doing business.  We also will not charge you for our parking when we go to court, or for our mileage for driving there.  We will charge you for court filing fees, messenger service, and expert witness fees.  If we anticipate your case will incur costs, we’ll tell right away.  You will not receive an “unexpected” bill for costs that we have not discussed with you.
