It is that time of year where students are tempted to "party" as schools approach end of year celebrations and graduations. Please remind your kids that partying with alcohol and drugs may seem like the thing to do, it can severely effect future plans! Being prosecuted for minor in possession, minor dui's and dui's result in a criminal record. Future employers will see these convictions years from now. If you think the competition is tough to get a job now, just wait a few years and with a criminal record, you definitely put yourself at a disadvantage.
Also, if you are going to college and think you can get a student loan, think again if you have a drug conviction. (Yes, that means possession of marijuana.) You will be denied national student loan assistance if you have any drug convictions and if you get a conviction when you have these loans, those funds stop being available and generally the underlying loan becomes due and owing. Don't mess around with your future! If you get into trouble, call our firm right away, but the best thing is to think before you get yourself into a bad situation. Consider whether your are willing to take the risk. Is the temporary and fleeting moment worth the long term damage of the consequences?
